Breast Augmentation by Implants

Breast Augmentation is the enlargement and firming of the breasts by adding volume,
Commonly in the form of an Implant/ Prosthesis

Benefits experienced by most patients:

2. The ability to wear the clothes they have always wanted to wear.

3. Feeling of restored youth after Pregnancy and Lactation

Negative Aspects:

1. Scars, with good Scar Care - usually fade within 9 to 18 months

2. Sensory Changes in Nipples- 95% recover over 6 to 8 months

3. Capsular Contracture with "hardening" of the breasts

4. Palpable prostheses, Ripples, Ruckles especially after weight loss

5. FDA recommends that prostheses should be replaced every 10 to 15 years

6. Surgical Complications - Infection, Bleeding, Haematoma, Seroma, Deep Vein Thrombosis.

7. IMPORTANT NOTE: This form of Breast Augmentation is NOT suitable on its own for women who have
ptosis of the breasts i.e. when the nipple is lower than the fold under the breast when the patient is upright.
Such a patient will also require a
mastopexy
